What Should You Do During a Plumbing Emergency?
In the event of a plumbing emergency, follow these simple steps right away.
Turn off your main water supply.
Mitigating damage is as easy as shutting off the water supply and contacting us. Even though plumbing emergencies are frightening and many variables may apply, it is easy to prevent the situation from worsening by keeping a cool head and using good judgement.
If water is flowing or flooding an area, you must stop it immediately. Knowing where your water shut off valves are located is crucial. There are shut off valves for individual fixtures and appliances as well as a main water shut off valve for the whole residence or building. All water shut off valves can be closed by turning the valve clockwise.
If you are not able to locate the shut off valve for a particular fixture or appliance, you can shut off the main water valve to stop all the water from flowing. It is also possible to shut off the water as it comes in from the street, before it reaches the first valve, but a special tool is needed to do this. Call us immediately if you are unable to shut off the water and need help doing so.
Once the main valve is turned off, you should then open your outdoor water spigots in order to drain the pipes so that water does not back up, causing a bigger problem.
If you have a gas water heater, you will also need to turn off the gas to this unit. This will prevent the water heater from being damaged and help ensure your safety, should heat and pressure build up while the water supply is off.
After your water supply has been turned off, call us immediately! We handle plumbing emergencies no matter the time of day. Plumbing emergencies take priority and we will make sure to get one of our plumbing professionals on the scene as quickly as possible.
Call us at (705)7335154 for all of your emergency plumbing needs. We will help you tackle any plumbing problem quickly and effectively, from start to finish.
